Application

Instrument current transformers of the AGE type are single-phase and single-pole transformers. They are used to reduce the current to specified values, and thus provide standard, i.e. usable current levels in input voltage monitoring, metering and protection, together with isolation of metering and protection equipment from high line voltages.
Transformers of this type are designed for outdoor installation in a vertical position.

Description of main parts

AGE type transformers have rated primary currents from 200 A to 3500 A. If necessary, transformation ratios can be added using terminals on the secondary windings.
The cores are made of cold-rolled transformer magnetic steel or high quality soft magnetic material, depending on the required accuracy class and rated primary current. The basic insulation is a mixture of quartz flour and two-component resin. After mixing at high temperatures, the mixture acquires excellent insulating characteristics and the necessary mechanical properties. The preparation of the mixture and casting of the active component is carried out using gravity and in a vacuum.
Primary terminals for rated continuous thermal currents from 240 A to 4200 A are shown in the diagram. They are made from electrolytic copper or brass and can be protected against corrosion by galvanic tinning or silver plating if required.
The secondary terminals are located in a sealed housing with cable entries. They have dimensions M8 and are secured with stainless steel bolts. Protection level IP55.
Transformers can accommodate up to three protection or measurement cores. The primary winding is made in the form of a rod. The secondary windings are made of high-quality copper enamel wire.
